The Uttar Pradesh government has enforced stricter marriage registration rules for couples marrying without family approval. As per a recent directive, the physical presence of the priest, pandit, or Qazi who solemnised the marriage is now mandatory.
Additional requirements include video proof of the ceremony, notarised affidavits from the officiant, Aadhaar-based ID, and biometric verification.
Temporary addresses won’t be accepted for registration. However, if an adult family member is present and vouches for the marriage, these conditions may be waived.
The move follows an Allahabad High Court order to curb fraudulent or disputed marriages.
