A Federal Appeals court, part of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, upheld a law requiring TikTok's parent company, ByteDance, to sell the app or face a ban by January 2025.
The Court ruled that the law is Constitutional and does not violate free speech rights.
The US government argues that TikTok poses a national security risk due to its Chinese ownership. TikTok plans to appeal the decision, while President Biden can grant a temporary extension if progress is made in finding a buyer.
TikTok was previously banned in India for similar security concerns.
