Indian Students Must Make Social Media Profile Public for US Visa Interviews: Embassy Warns Indians

The US Embassy has announced that Indian students applying for study or exchange visas (F, M, or J categories) must make their social media profiles public before their visa interviews.

While social media screening has been in place since 2019, this new guideline mandates profile visibility to aid identity verification and admissibility checks under US immigration laws.

Students are advised to ensure consistency between their social media, application, and interview responses.

Education Experts emphasise the importance of honesty, noting that visas are a privilege, not a right, and can be denied or revoked for any violations under the US Immigration and Nationality Act.
