Ustad Wasifuddin Dagar Moves Supreme Court in ‘Veera Raja Veera’ Copyright Dispute

Dhrupad vocalist Faiyaz Wasifuddin Dagar has approached the Supreme Court challenging a Delhi High Court Division Bench order that set aside interim relief granted in his copyright dispute with AR Rahman over the song Veera Raja Veera from Ponniyin Selvan II.

Dagar claims the song was copied from Shiva Stuti composed by the Junior Dagar Brothers. The Supreme Court adjourned the matter to February 13.

Dagar has argued that the Division Bench exceeded its appellate scope and erred on authorship, originality, fixation, and moral rights under the Copyright Act.
