WAQF BILL, 2024 : A CONTROVERSIAL REFORM

The Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, is a proposed law to improve the management of Waqf properties (charitable endowments in Islam) in India. 

The bill seeks to change the Waqf Act of 1995. It suggests making the Central Waqf Council more accountable and giving the government more control over Waqf boards.

A Joint Parliamentary Committee is currently examining the bill. There are protests from opposition parties and community leaders who are concerned about its potential negative impact on Muslim autonomy.

Proponents of the bill argue that it will help reduce corruption and make Waqf management more efficient.
