West Bengal Assembly Passed Bill to Allow Women To Work In Bars

The West Bengal State Assembly passed a bill allowing women to work in bars by amending the Bengal Excise Act, of 1909.

This removes the ban on women working in liquor shops where alcohol is consumed.

Minister of State Chandrima Bhattacharya stated that the State government does not believe in discrimination between men and women.

The bill also helps control illegal liquor brewing by regulating raw materials like jaggery.

Additionally, it amends the Bengal Agricultural Income Tax Act, of 1944, to give tax relief to the tea industry, especially smaller tea gardens affected by the pandemic.
