What does an Advocate-on-Record Do?

An Advocate-on-Record (AoR) is a lawyer authorised to file and conduct cases directly before the Supreme Court of India under the Supreme Court Rules, 2013.

Only an AoR can officially act and plead on behalf of a party by filing petitions, affidavits, applications, and other legal documents before the Court.

To qualify, an advocate must undergo prescribed training, gain practice experience, and clear the Advocate-on-Record Examination conducted by the Supreme Court.

AoRs play a crucial role in Supreme Court litigation, as they are responsible for procedural compliance, filings, case management, and communication between clients, advocates, and the Court.
