Impleadment is the process of adding a necessary or proper party to an ongoing civil case to ensure a fair and complete decision.
Under Order 1 Rule 10 of the Civil Procedure Code (CPC), courts can add or remove parties at any stage. A necessary party is one without whom the court cannot grant complete relief, while a proper party has a significant interest but is not essential.
For example, in a property dispute, a co-owner may be impleaded to avoid conflicting rulings. This ensures all stakeholders are heard, prevents multiple litigations, and protects the rights of everyone involved.
