WhatsApp Users Sue Meta in US Over Alleged False Claims of End-to-End Encryption

WhatsApp users from several countries, including India, have filed a class action lawsuit in a US court accusing Meta and WhatsApp of misleading users about message privacy.

The plaintiffs allege that while WhatsApp claims its chats are fully end-to-end encrypted and unreadable even by the company, Meta employees can allegedly access message content using internal tools.

The suit claims this contradicts repeated assurances given to users and amounts to misrepresentation, unjust enrichment and violation of privacy rights.

The petitioners have sought damages and injunctive relief, alleging systemic misuse of user data and calling for greater transparency on how message content is accessed and handled.
