The Punjab and Haryana High Court upheld the requirement of minimum marks for the Haryana Superior Judicial Services exam, ruling it as a valid criterion for assessing candidates.
The exam mandated a minimum of 50%—500 out of 1,000 marks—in the written test and viva voce.
A petitioner, who scored 467 marks, challenged the selection process, arguing that the requirement was not in Article 309 of the Constitution or the Haryana Superior Judicial Services Rules, 2007. He sought grace marks but was denied.
Citing a Supreme Court ruling on minimum marks for viva voce, the High Court affirmed its authority to set eligibility criteria and dismissed the petition.
