Supreme Court Passed Directions to Be Followed on Recording Lawyers’ Appearances in Court

  • Case Name: Supreme Court Bar Association & Anr v State of UP & Ors.
  • Judge(s): Justice Bela M Trivedi & Satish Chandra Sharma

The Supreme Court held that only Senior Advocates, Advocates-on-Record, or Advocates who are physically present and arguing during the hearing will have their appearances recorded in the proceedings.

Additionally, one Advocate or AOR assisting the arguing counsel will also be noted in the record.

The Court has also passed the directions to be followed where a Senior advocate shall not appear without an AoR in the Supreme Court.

The court stopped the practice of listing multiple lawyers in records if they weren’t present. This decision came after a case where a person denied filing a petition and claimed they never hired the listed lawyers.
