The Kerala High Court administrative committee has eased the dress code for advocates due to the extreme summer heat.
The Kerala High Court Advocates Association sought this change, citing health risks like dehydration and heatstroke from wearing black coats.
Under the Bar Council of India Rules, 1975, male and female advocates must wear black coats and gowns in court. The association pointed out poor ventilation in district courts.
As a temporary measure until May 31, advocates in district courts can choose not to wear black coats and gowns, while those in the High Court are exempt from wearing gowns.
