Kerala High Court Urges BCI To Consider Transgender Reservation In Law Colleges

The Kerala High Court on October 9, 2025, directed the Bar Council of India to examine reserving seats for transgender students in government law colleges.

The Bench, hearing a petition seeking separate rank lists and supernumerary seats, noted that such reservations exist in medical and engineering colleges and questioned why the law should be an exception.

The petitioner, a transgender woman who qualified in the KLEE-2025 rank list, was denied admission to Government Law College, Kozhikode, due to the absence of a transgender category. The Court asked the BCI to file its response by October 16.
