Wife of Sonam Wangchuk Approaches Supreme Court Challenging his Detention under NSA

Gitanjali J. Angmo, wife of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, has approached the Supreme Court seeking his release from detention under the National Security Act (NSA).

Wangchuk was arrested on September 26, 2025, following violent protests in Ladakh demanding statehood and Sixth Schedule status. Angmo filed a habeas corpus petition on October 2, 2025, asserting that she has not been informed of his health or the grounds for his detention.

She alleges that the Ladakh Police are misusing their authority to suppress dissent and oppress the local population.

The Supreme Court is currently on vacation for Dussehra, and it is unclear when the petition will be heard.
