The Supreme Court has made it clear that no impediment will be allowed in the completion of the Election Commission of India’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in any State.
Hearing petitions related to West Bengal SIR, Chief Justice of India Surya Kant stated that necessary directions may be issued, but the SIR process must proceed uninterrupted.
The Court clarified that micro-observers only assist EROs/AEROs and cannot take final decisions.
The batch of petitions also concerns SIR in Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Kerala, where the process has not been halted despite ongoing challenges.
