Bombay Lawyers Urge CJI BR Gavai to Sanction Criminal Action Against Justice Yashwant Varma

The Bombay Lawyers Association has urged Chief Justice of India BR Gavai to sanction criminal prosecution against Justice Yashwant Varma. 

This follows the reported recovery of approx ₹15 crore in partially burnt, unaccounted cash from his Delhi residence in March 2025.

The BLA cited video and photo evidence and invoked the K Veeraswami v Union of India, which allows prosecution of judges with prior approval from the CJI.

The association raised concerns over the lack of an FIR or seizure report and requested the CJI to direct Delhi Police or CBI to preserve all material evidence.
