Justice Yashwant Varma has filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court challenging an in-house inquiry report that found him culpable after large sums of cash were discovered at his residence during a fire incident on March 14.
He also opposed the impeachment recommendation made by then Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna to the President and Prime Minister. He alleged bias in the inquiry, claiming denial of a fair hearing and an unfair reversal of the burden of proof.
The committee, after examining 55 witnesses, concluded the cash was under his control. Parliament may consider the impeachment motion in the upcoming monsoon session.
