The Delhi High Court dismissed a plea by RJD Chief and former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav seeking to stay trial court proceedings in the 'land-for-jobs' corruption case.
Justice Ravinder Dudeja ruled there were no compelling reasons to halt the proceedings, noting that Yadav could present his arguments during the trial court's charge framing stage.
Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal, argued that the CBI initiated the inquiry without obtaining mandatory prior sanction under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The CBI countered that sanctions under Section 19 were obtained and Section 17A applicability is pending before the Supreme Court. The trial court is scheduled to hear arguments on charge framing on June 2.
