Supreme Court Judges to Publicly Disclose Assets for Greater Transparency

In a significant move towards judicial transparency, all 33 sitting judges of the Supreme Court have decided to disclose their assets on the court’s website. This resolution, adopted in a full court meeting on April 1, 2025, will also apply to future judges.

The decision comes in the wake of controversy over the alleged discovery of burnt cash at the official residence of Delhi High Court judge Yashwant Varma after a fire incident.

Previously, judges were only required to declare their assets to the Chief Justice of India, with public disclosure being optional.

The Supreme Court aims to enhance transparency, uphold ethical standards, and reinforce public trust in the judiciary.
