The Supreme Court recently examined a PIL seeking structural reforms to address the growing issue of missing and trafficked children across the country.
The petition proposed measures such as a National DNA and Biometric Identification System, integration of child protection databases and mandatory DNA verification in adoption-related processes.
The Court acknowledged the seriousness and sensitivity of the issue but observed that merely highlighting concerns would not suffice.
Stressing the need for practical and implementable solutions, the Bench asked the petitioner to present a concrete framework addressing institutional coordination, tracing mechanisms and rehabilitation procedures for rescued children.
