The Supreme Court on Thursday sought the response of the Delhi government on a curative petition filed by Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist and Pakistani national Mohd Arif, challenging the death sentence awarded to him in the 2000 Red Fort attack case.
The Court heard the curative plea in open court and issued notice to the State. Arif was convicted for attacking the Red Fort and killing three Indian Army jawans, and his death sentence was earlier upheld by the Sessions Court, Delhi High Court, and the Supreme Court.
His review petition was also dismissed in 2022 after the Court found that aggravating circumstances outweighed mitigating factors.
The curative petition represents his final judicial remedy.
