Karnataka High Court Urges NLSIU to Address 0.5% Transgender Reservation Promptly

The National Law School of India University has agreed before the Karnataka High Court that it will place the proposal for 0.5% reservation for transgender persons before its Executive Council.

This follows a single judge’s order directing NLSIU to provide reservation and fee waiver based on the Supreme Court’s 2014 NALSA v. Union of India judgment and the Karnataka State Policy on Transgenders, 2017.

NLSIU argued it cannot set quotas without a formal study, but the bench held that delays are unacceptable and asked the university to act swiftly.

The matter is listed for further hearing on July 7, 2025.
