Petition in Supreme Court Seeks FIR Against Justice Yashwant Varma After In-house Inquiry Findings

A writ petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking the registration of an FIR against Justice Yashwant Varma, following the conclusion of the in-house committee inquiry

Advocate Mathews Nedumpara and three others approached the court again after their earlier petition was dismissed in March, citing the pendency of the committee’s findings.

The petitioners challenged the precedent laid down in the K. Veeraswami case, which requires prior approval of the Chief Justice of India before registering an FIR against a judge, calling it inconsistent with the rule of law.

They argued that impeachment is only a civil remedy, and there must be penal action.
